KFC: The 30 Day Batman Challenge-Day 4

Today's Question: Least Favorite Actor in a Batman film?

Once again, this wasn't a very hard decision on my part. However, I feel kind of bad for who it is. Sure, the performance isn't that good, but can you blame the guy? He was simply acting out the script in front of him. He took one of comic's greatest characters and delivered an unmemorable and at times laughable performance.

I'm talking of course about Pat Hingle as Commissioner Gordon. Hingle gives us a bumbling, incompetent police chief who in the comics is anything but. Being a frequent and loyal ally in Batman's war on crime, Gordon is an honest, unsung hero in a dishonest city. A central character who offers great dynamics and resolves to numerous Batman stories, in the Burton and Schumacher films, he's merely wallpaper who could easily be an unnamed police/authority figure. Hell, he doesn't even don the famous set of glasses Gordon is known for.

As I said earlier, I hate to be so bitter about ol' Hingle. I'm sure he was a really nice guy who was just thrilled to be working in such high profile films. I'm more angered at the filmmakers for leaving the character out to dry like they did. Gary Oldman's take on the character is flawless and is a carbon copy, in a great way, out of its comic book roots. Nolan understood the need and use of such a great character. Props to him for that and shame on Burton and Schumacher.
